Zonta Club of Kauai awarded 13 scholarships in 2016

Seven students from Kauai’s high schools shared in $10,000 in scholarships presented by the Zonta Club of Kauai during a recent program at the home of Zontian Betty Bell in Koloa.
Tarryn Orial, Kiana Okino and Wylie Barker were each awarded $2,000 Zonta Club of Kauai scholarships.
Autumn Warnock was presented the $1,000 Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship, Nicole Carney was the recipient of the $1,000 Marge Akana Scholarship, Hazel-Lyn Jarquio earned the $1,000 Bicycle John Scholarship, and Jaeda Rohner was present with a $1,000 scholarship.
Orial, recently qualifying for the state tennis tournament with the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, will be heading to Menlo College in California to pursue a degree in business while her fellow Kauai High School graduate Kiana Okino plans on pursuing study in law at the University of Portland in Oregon.
Barker, the third Zonta Club of Kauai scholarship recipient, will be heading to Montreal, Canada where she intends on studying neuroscience.
Warnock, graduating from Island School, has been accepted at eight different colleges and universities where she intends on pursuing study in criminal or international law.
Carney, the recipient of the Marge Akana Scholarship, plans on becoming a primary or elementary teacher and will head to the University of Northern Colorado to pursue her degrees and credentials.
Jarquio, graduating from Kapaa High School, will be heading to the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she intends to pursue a nurse practitioner course of study.
Rohner will be enrolling at the Kauai Community College where she plans to study business.
A major portion of proceeds from the annual Eat Dessert First fundraiser is used to provide the student scholarships for high school seniors as well as to assist with the education of women re-entering the workforce through KCC.
