Everyone Can Join the Zonta Mission

In 2019, in recognition of Zonta International's Centennial  Celebration and honoring of 100 years of service, proclamations were presented by Mayor Derek Kawakami, County Council Members Mason Chock and Felicia Cowden and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard's office.

The Zonta Club of Kaua'i members
are committed to serving the community and
participate in a number of projects and events each year.  We work in partnership with
several organizations in order to
provide resources and manpower to numerous causes
here locally and globally.

We also advocate for those in need and
with your monetary and other support,
we are able to provide material and financial assistance to women and children as well as
families who are survivors of sexual assault,
domestic violence and homelessness.

With your support, the Zonta Club of Kaua'i
awards grants to organizations like the YWCA,
Malama Pono, United Way, the
Kaua'i Independent Food Bank and more!

Through our annual fundraisers,
with your generous support,
we are also able to award several annual scholarships
to women who wish to pursue higher education and advance their status in society as well as
to families in need every year with our Christmas Fund.

Although our membership is by invitation only, please feel to reach out to us if you are interested in becoming a member or are interested in partnering with us for your next community service project. We are happy to serve!

Global Advocacy Campaigns

National Denim Day
Wear DENIM to bring awareness & use the hashtag #DenimDay when you share!

Denim Day was originally triggered by a ruling from the Italian Supreme Court when a rape conviction was overturned because the justices held that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the rapist remove her jeans thereby implying consent.  Women of the Italian Parliament protested the decision by wearing jeans at work.

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, the Zonta Clubs of Kaua'i and the North Shore observed Denim Day, and gathered together in Lihue where Mayor Derek Kawakami presented a National Denim Day Proclamation at the Civic Center. In 2020, Zonta members led a virtual campaign through social media. Each year on Denim Day, women wear denim with a purpose to support survivors, and to educate others about sexual assault. No matter what, clothing is never an excuse for sexual assault. #DenimDay

Equal Pay Day
Wear RED to symbolize how far women & minorities are "in the red" with their pay & share using the #EqualPayDay hashtag!

Equal Pay Day was originated by the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between men's and women's wages.  Because women earn less, on average, than men, they must work longer for the same amount of pay. The wage gap is even greater for most women of color.

On April 10, 2018, a rally to raise awareness was led by members of the Zonta Club of Kaua'i. Mayor Bernard Carvalho and members of the County Council issued an Equal Pay Day Proclamation. Read The Garden Island Newspaper feature  HERE.

Women's Right to Vote:
100 Year Celebration
of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment
Celebrating Women of Leadership & Courage, join virtually by using #100YearsWomensSuffrage #19thAmendment hashtags!

Suffragettes fought to win Women's right to vote, until on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified.

Today, we honor the women of yesterday in a celebration of women empowerment, by exercising our right to vote and coming together to remember those who fought before us.

On August 18, 2020 our Zonta Club of Kaua'i volunteered with AAUW Kaua'i, YWCA & the Zonta Club of Hanalei to display a colorful array of resource tables, photography, art and entertainment. See the feature in The Garden Island Newspaper HERE and on Zonta International newsletter HERE!

Help Zonta & UNICEF Stop Child Marriages!

The Zonta USA Caucus is excited to announce the launch of a national Public Service Announcement (PSA) billboard campaign to stop child marriages in the United States, in partnership with UNICEF USA.

How can you support this important cause? Increase awareness of child marriage in the United States and encourage legislators in your state to pass legislation that prohibits marriage under the age of 18 with no exceptions. Visit stopchildmarriages.org & talk to members in your community, contact legislation and share on social media

We recognize that there are a lot of stresses and uncertainty with the global COVID-19 pandemic; however, we also know that actions like ours are needed even more in times of crises. We hope that you can find some time while you are at home to connect with your fellow community leaders and members and be creative in finding ways to support the campaign and ensure its success.

Thank you in advance for your support! Together, we can stop child marriages in the United States.
